We’re thrilled to share the highlights and successes from the recent Annual Laser Group Conference, held at the fantastic Te Pae Convention Centre in Christchurch. This year’s event was a powerful mix of community service, invaluable learning, and a stunning celebration of excellence.
💚 Giving Back: The Laser Charity Taskforce
The conference kicked off on Day 1 with our annual Laser Charity Taskforce, where members from across the group rolled up their sleeves to support a vital cause.
We were honored to partner with the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust, a dedicated, volunteer-run NGO working with limited resources to protect the internationally recognised South Spit Reserve & Avon-Heathcote Ihutai Estuary. This precious coastal wetland is a critically important habitat for migratory birds and a cherished community resource.
Working alongside the Estuary Trust and Christchurch Park Rangers, our team spent the day actively contributing to ecological resilience:
- 🍃 Planting native vegetation to create safer nesting areas.
- 🪤 Setting traps to control pests like rats, stoats, and weasels.
- 🌱 Removing invasive lupins to allow native species to thrive.
- 🔨 Lending valuable help with various odd jobs where our skills and people could make a difference.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lend our support to the Estuary Trust and the supplier community who helped make this meaningful day possible.
🧠 Driving Growth: The Conference Days
The following two days were dedicated to company updates, focusing on our vision for growth and improvement within the group. We were privileged to hear from speakers who shared powerful insights on leadership and success:
- Zion Armstrong: The former head of Adidas North America, who was raised in West Auckland and shared his wisdom on people leadership, drawing on his immense success leading the Adidas business internationally.
- Raelene Castle: The CEO of Sport NZ, who shared her amazing story and insights on leadership and behavior from her time as CEO of the Canterbury Bulldogs (NRL), Netball NZ, and Rugby Australia.
- Greg Nathan: The founder of the Franchise Relationship Institute, who provided key knowledge to strengthen our relationships and business frameworks.
🏆 A Night of Celebration: Awards Ceremony Success!
The conference culminated with our black-tie awards ceremony, a spectacular event celebrating 25 years of Laser—a journey that started with two blokes in a garage and grew into Australasia’s largest plumbing & electrical network. The evening was a recognition of the hard work, innovation, and teamwork championed by founder Peter Bassett and carried forward by businesses across the country.
